Red Aztec is an improved red variety with more intense red leaves. Ideal for baby leaf or microgreen production. Red Aztec will grow into a full size plant that is attractive as an ornamental. Requires warm growing conditions to thrive. Young leaves are tender and perform well under protection.
Sowing instructions – Babyleaf production
Sow thinly into containers of damp multipurpose or seed compost and lightly cover seeds with sieved compost. Keep the compost damp but not wet. Seedlings will appear within 3-10 days. Keep weed free and well-watered when established. In cooler weather water less frequently. Harvest the baby leaves when large enough to cut. Use scissors to snip off a few from each plant at 2.5cm (1in) from the base. Avoid damaging the central growing point of the plant and allow the remaining leaves to grow on. Feed with a general purpose feed after cutting to support new leaf growth.
