Dahlia Witteman’s Best
Dahlia Witteman’s Best is a deep red cactus dahlia with fuller petal than the more spidery cactus dahlias. Being a tall, 120cm, Dahlia Witteman’s Best really stands out planted in a prominent position in the flower border. Long stems make the dahlia a great cut flower.
As with most dahlia plants it flowers freely if deadheaded regularly. Dahlia Witteman’s Best should be planted in sunny sheltered locations in free draining humus rich soils. Incorporating well-rotted manure or compost is beneficial. On heavier soils incorporate sand and/or grit and compost to aid drainage. Plant tubers outside from April onwards or for earlier flowers plant in pots in a greenhouse or conservatory in March. Protect fresh growth from late frosts.
Taller varieties may need extra support with canes and twine. Dahlia plants will flower from July right through to the first frosts. Dahlia tubers need frost protection during the winter. In warmer drier gardens it is possible to leave them in the ground otherwise lift the Dahlia tubers and store them somewhere dry and frost free.

Collection and Delivery options will be available on checkout. We try to get in stock orders boxed and shipped within 48hrs and often orders placed before 10am are shipped the same day. In busy periods however lead times could be extended. Orders containing plants will only be shipped Monday to Thursday (10am cut off) so they are not sat in boxes over the weekend. If you order after 10am on a Thursday you will not receive your order until Tuesday Seed only orders - £2.00: For orders that contain only packets of seed P&P is £2.00 to anywhere in the UK Standard Delivery - £4.95: Our standard P&P charge is £4.95 to Mainland UK Plants and Seed Potato - £6.95: These products will be subjected to a higher P&P fee of £6.95 due to the extra handling of plants and the extra weight with seed potatoes. Plants and seed potatoes delivered to the Scottish Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland will incur a surcharge of £8.00 (postcodes listed below) Free Delivery – Over £50: Order over £50 will be delivered free of P&P charges Collection – Nursery: Click and collect is available from the nursery all year around by arrangement. This option can be selected at Checkout. We will then contact you to arrange a collection day and time. Collection – Potato Day: During check out you will have the option to select collection from one of our potato days. Please remember these are one day events so you must be able to collect on that specific day. There will be no charge for this service.
